LOVELACE MAKES IT TWO OUT OF TWO
The extra half an hour of daylight since the last round allowed fifty riders to complete the three laps of eight sections in the light for the second round of the summer series at Ashley Hollow near Ringwood in Hants. More new sections were cut out to offer riders a different challenge.
Ben Lovelace took his second expert win finishing two ahead of Oli Gray and four ahead of Oli’s dad Dave. Section 8 which included a tricky climb over several logs was the main difference, Lovelace had three dabs, Oli Gray three twos and Dave Gray three threes. Dec Francis finished all square on four with Gary Tarrant but took the win with one more clean, this gives them one win each after two rounds. Ian Cobb and Keith Hitchings both lost five with an equal number of cleans to finish joint third. David James was the lone Youth B runner losing forty two, he improved during the trial shown by the difficult section 4 where two threes footing were were followed by an impressive controlled ‘one’ on the third.Â
On the Sportsman Route Kev Downer took his second win on the Beta, but shared the win with Shamus Doohan and Mark Davis, all finishing clean. Darren Bunce on his first ride of the season had a good ride losing just one mark on the first lap. Bay Robinson is coming to terms with his new Beta 80, putting in a good controlled ride on twenty.Â
On the D route, three riders finished clean over the tricky short sections. Lloyd James took his second win in the main novice class, eight ahead of Hamish Smythe and Gary Sainsbury having an excellent first ride on his ex Graham Harrison Beta. The top four riders in the Pre65’s were all on BSA B40’s, Andy Withers topped the class clean, finishing one ahead of Mike Smallshaw, Trev Newell on his first ride on his new machine lost three and surprisingly round one winner Mike Jarratt suffered a single five on section 3. Phil Jones topped the Twinshocks three ahead of round one winner Mike Popperwell who lost three on section 3, taking second from Matthew Wilson on cleans. Ollie Barr had one of his best rides losing just eight in the youth class.  Â
